An idea...... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Tue, 31 Jul 2007 07:13:03 In Reply to: Periodic failure to start, Claire Winans-Keech, Mon, 30 Jul 2007 18:00:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The ideas posted are good, and the more likely cause of the problem.
Assuming that you have an automatic: There is test you can perform...without tools. When it fails, gently rock the shift handle, with it still in Park, at the same time you're attempting to start the car. If it suddenly starts cranking it's likely that the neutral safety switch is defective or out of adjustment. After doing this a few times to get started your indy will know what to do to more permanently rectify the problem. If this is the cause, rocking the shift handle may seem like a fix; it's not...eventually you'll end up stuck somewhere.
If you're not a DIYer, tightening the battery cable to the starter is best left to your indy...this can be rechecked and tightened as necessary in a few moments.
