Say the oil can hold up for 10-15k miles. What about the oil filter, or is that replaced at regular intervals? Surely after twice the usual service there would be oil pressure issues.
If there is a sludge problem where does it start, oil pickup?
I recently rebuilt(twice) the V6 in my 99SE and this is why I wouldn't buy the car, unless you like to gamble or work on cars yourself.
Around 110,000 miles I had these all fail,
timing belt pulley bearing
accessory belt tensioner
coolant bypass valve
water pump
thermostat
valve cover gasket
While I had the engine apart I also replaced some seriously worn crank bearings. I have no idea what oil was used in it before 100k, but I use full syn. While I had the motor apart I didn't see any kind of sludge build up anywhere. I love the car, its awesome to drive, but the quality of components seems sub-par to save on more colorful words.
Since the car you are looking at only has 20k you have atleast 80k miles of driving before you need to sell it or start worrying I'm sure.
