Well, one of the pulley bearings on my timing belt tension failed, twice!
At around 110k the first bearing went out, made some noise for a few days and I finally decided I should stop driving it. Being a decent mechanic and too broke to pay somebody to do it, I took it apart myself. The repair went well, but adjusting the three belt tensioners is a bitch. For two days it ran great, until leaving a parking spot the motor suddenly died and made lots of clunking noises.
Again the motor came all apart, amazingly no valves were bent and the cause of the belt failure was one of the spacers that came with one of the belt pullies was too thin and was not turning smoothly enough if at all. The timing belt got so hot it wrecked the bearings in the other pulleys. I think I spent 700bux just in tensioners and pullies.
I don't know if the belt was changed before 100k, but it looked fine. However, the tensioner pullies DEFFINIELY needs to be changes before 100k miles.
I would strongly recommend the water pump be changed at the same time.
