Replaced the orange relay with a new one from KAI. No change in symptoms...
Here's more details:
With the light switch in the OFF position, all lights are off. Dashboard is not illuminated. Pulling the turn signal lever back results in flash-to-pass as expected.
With the light switch in the parking-lights position, all lights are on. Dashboard is illuminated. Pulling the turn signal lever back results in flash-to-pass -- both high beams turn on in addition to the low beams for as long as the lever is held.
With the light switch in the headlights position, all lights are off. Dashboard is not illuminated. Pulling the turn signal lever back results in flash-to-pass -- both high beams turn on as long as the lever is held.
So... all the bulbs are intact... and the wiring to the bulbs must be OK because they will all turn on... just not when and how they are supposed to.
Could some other relay have failed? Is there any wiring to the light switch that could fail and cause this? Or is there something unhappy in DICE/TWICE somewhere?
The problem cropped up after the car was in for a replacement alternator, serpentine idler, and battery. (I guess the Saab dealership didn't catch the idler pulley at the 60K mile service... just as they didn't change the cabin air filter...) Could this have confused the headlight settings, or could my indy have forgotten to hook something back up?
