Ideas on a different way to shop..... Some ideas on how to shop....
1. Where you buy the car and where you have it serviced do not have to be the same dealer.
2. Driving to a dealer and sitting down with a sales person is very inefficient. Consider:
a. Use of the internet
b. Use email....the more hungry dealers will respond
c. Use the telephone
d. Look for loaners or demo cars dealers are trying to sell
e. Maybe you should consider a low-mileage used 9-5. The
2006-2008 are essentially the same vintage
3. After you've found a car/price deal that's right for you....go back to your dealer of choice; see if he's interested in competing. If not, move on.
Conclusion: Don't waste your time with a dealer that is holding out for an absurd price.
Not all dealers are equal when it comes to parts and service. I bought my new 2007 9-5 Aero from a dealer that knocked a huge chunk off of MSRP; however, I wouldn't think of getting parts or servic there. When I needed an extra remote key (including programming) the same dealer wanted $300...a competing dealer did the job for $145!
By the way, the same NJ dealer had 2 new 2007 9-5 Sport Combi's....2 mos. ago :-(
