With all the numerous posts over the years about the CPS and starting and running problems, why in the world did your mechanic simply not replace it right at the start. It is very easy to do, and the cost of the part is reasonable.
Hopefully future trouble shooters will see this thread and realize don't try to over analyze it, just change the CPS first.
