Just like any premium car with lots of features, there can be issues. I've owned a 2003 9-5 and currently own a 2004 9-5. I agree with Mike's comments, the 2003 was the last year before all the goodies were removed, like weather band radio. That being said, I prefer the front bumper that the 2004 Aero has to the 2003.
My 2003 had many issues that puzzled the dealer. These included transmission problems, ABS system problems, etc. I sold this car after only 3 years, and I had intended to keep it much longer.
My 2004, on the other hand, has about 51,000 miles on it and has had nothing except for scheduled routine maintenance, tire changes, etc. It has been very reliable, and a wonderful car.
Whichever Saab you choose, carefully check the records to make sure it is one that has been reliable.
Good luck with your choice.
