I once took my non-saab in for a "free inspection" at a new dealer in town. I asked them to do an alignment and the free check. at the time the car was 10 years old and had 230k on it.

the verdict: "you have lots of oil leaks, you need a new engine. it will ~$7000. can I schedule you now?"

<I just about spit my coffee all over the service writers desk>.

Seeing my distress, he countered with "or if you prefer we can put a rebuilt engine in for ~$4000"

I said "please give me the keys",

On the way home, I stopped at Advance Auto to buy a valve cover gasket ($18), installed it in 20mins. Leak solved.

btw they botched the alignment too.

ya know there are lots of really good dealers around, and even more really good indy's. Just turned out that these guys were not among them.
