It's all good and cool...00-05 Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sat, 8 Dec 2007 18:32:04 In Reply to: 9-5 Wagon totalled; 2003-2004 9-5 Wagon Choices?, westernny, Thu, 6 Dec 2007 07:36:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You should expand your search for all years. No reason to reject a 2000-2001 at the right price and mileage, the 4-speed autos are pretty good and the interiors are nicer on the 00-01's than later years, nicer wood and higher quality more gathered leather.
And look at 02's too, they're the same as 03's. Nice years for Saab with the MCE, the mid cycle enhancement like the 5 speed auto, and the Aero sport seats. The Arcs in 02-03 were pretty special, fully loaded all with standard premium package and vented seats. 02+ Aeros got the fabulous sport seats and the full 250 horses in the autos.
04 is a mixed bag. Linear SportWagons are strippees, a few even came without moonroofs, not necessarily a bad thing, and the Arcs lost the smooth V6 for a more economical and more powerful 225hp 2.3T. The Aeros got the new lower front facia and the Arcs got the former Aero front spoiler but without the low Aero suspension. All cars got decontented, missing some non-essential (IMHO) items such as umbrella holders in the B pillars, weather band on the radio, rear puddle lights, trim in the SportWagon hatch jamb and other didly stuff. Some Arcs had the optional Double Three Spoke 17" wheels as a stand alone option.
02's and up had optional toys like xenon headlights, rain sensing wipers and rear park assist, nice stuff, mostly bundled altogether in the later years but sorta' piecemeal in 02. Vented seats can be pretty useful for some and came standard on 02-03 Arcs.
I drove the 02-06's all the time and though the MCE stuff is nice, it didn't make me wanna' trade my cool 2000 Aero SportWagon, so don't get hung up on an 02 and up, IMHO.
Aero folks know who they are..... Big horsepower, sport suspension and seats have a definite calling for some, others could care less. But one note if you buy someone an Aero and they're not really Aero folks, they won't mind. There's nothing distinctly off putting about the sporty Aero ride, nicer than any normal OG9-3 for example, and the sport seats are worth it alone for some.
Happy hunting and merlot with tan is a hot combo.....
