Some thoughts after 280K on a 2000 9-5 Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 06:24:30 In Reply to: should I buy '99 9-5 sedan 95,000miles $4000, Jim S., Thu, 24 Jan 2008 09:13:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Go for it. Based upon your post, this sounds like a very good deal.
The posts you see on this BB are from those of us who either have a maintenance problem or want to share a solution. The Saab owners not having a problem generally don't report that....and they're in the majority.
From the vantage point of 280K miles on a 2000 9-5 you're getting a good deal. You will see some wear items showing up that you won't have a new car warranty to cover. On the other hand you're not spending $30K-$40K for the car either. Maintenance items like DIC's, fuel pumps, water pumps and throttle bodies don't all head south at the same time....although they do require fairly immediate attention. Many other maintenance or wear items such as struts and shocks, ball joints, wheel bearings and catalytic converters will usually give you some advance notice.
Since you know your friend and have good reason to assume that you'd be getting a car that has been maintained and which is priced very attractively, your decision to buy appears to be sound IMHO.
