I understand exactly why analog OnStar has been "shut off". My issue is that Saab sold compatible or upgradeable 9-5s in 2004 & 2005 (or so I understand) which differ only slightly to most other 9-5s which came before, and are said to be not upgradeable.
Now, if only the 2006 & up 9-5s were upgradeable or compatible, that's fine, as those cars must have had quite the electrical makeover to use the Chevy radios, and it is not unreasonable that those OnStar systems could not be made to work on earlier cars.
But it would seem to me that Saab has, sitting on their warehouse shelves, parts that could be used to upgrade some, if not all prior model year 9-5s. Maybe I'm totally off base, or maybe it would work, but you also have to swap out TWICE and or DICE or the Airbag module to work, making the whole idea far to expensive.
I'm not looking for a "free" upgrade, but something within reason. A couple or few hundred bucks, and maybe a couple years of service wouldn't be unreasonable (hey, if you're getting the upgrade why not the service...
