Larry,
Nice to see you in a 9-5! About time!
The long/short belt question is a 4-cyl-only issue. The weak spot in the V6 serpentine belt system (accessories, not timing belt) is the pulley on the tensioner. I found one for one of my friends last weekend at O'Reilly's($27), which absolutely amazed me, but it made the pulley and belt change (alongside a highway at night) much, much easier.
I disconnected OffStar and went with a Motorola hands-free Bluetooth kit.
Radio wiring installation in a 9-5's a piece of cake. There's a 12V circuit that's rated at 30 amps in the trailer wiring harness (in the trunk adjacent to the spare tire), and once you install the appropriate fuse in the main fuse panel, it's an unswitched/continuous feed. Very slick.
Running control and speaker wires for your transceiver through the car's pretty easy. The door sill trim pieces pop out, no screws, and the loom's in a plastic clip harness, so snaking the control and speaker cables to the front of the car's clean and easy. With some very minor cutting and filing, the front panel/control head on your dual-bander will fit nicely in the removable cubby under the HVAC controls. The radio will bolt up cleanly to the underside of the parcel shelf without drilling (there's already a couple holes in the parcel shelf!). Email me off list and I'd be glad to send pics of my radio and dual-band antenna install (Yaesu FT-7100M).
73,
Paul
