Travis, there are at least a couple of research items you can pursue. Go to a friendly dealer with the VIN of this car, and they can pull an IRIS report. All dealer provided service that is entered in the database will be listed. You can also use carfax or an equivalent, for additional history. The posters have provided you with a lot of things to consider. I will add one thing. Short of taking off bits for actual internal investigation(valve cover, oilpan etc), you can just listen to the engine. If you have other 95 s availabble for comparison, all the better. Start the car with the hood up. Listen to it cold, then as it warms up. Particularly on the passenger side (US), where your chains are. Once warmed up, take it for a drive. This is a great test for the tranny (I am guessing it is an auto) -keep it in drive, and let it auto through the gears. does it shift smoothly? any hesitations or hiccups? Now try some manual shifting . Similar test for manual anyways. Also do some moderate acceleration. How is the suspension over bumps, expansion joints, and the like? In the middle of your test drive, pull over and pop the hood with engine running. Now listen thoroughly again. Quiet still? Any new sounds clicks or rattles? Take it back, listen once more. Turn it off, and start it and listen again. Let it idle for a while. Throughout this test make sure you never see the oil light on or even flicker (except at startup, when it appears and disappears). In liew of other, more extensive tests and inspections, this is the least you should do. These is also one more mechnical test you could consider either yourself or a mechanic. Pull timing chain tensioner, and measure. Good luck, and regards, Tom S.
