I bought my 2001 with 160k... Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Mon, 31 Mar 2008 13:33:38 In Reply to: Mileage- how much is too much?, Dave, Mon, 31 Mar 2008 10:50:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I also bought it when I was 16 with the intent of just zipping around town in it to and from high school and work. But it's proven to be a pretty reliable car (knock on wood). I now drive it back and forth quite a bit between home and college, about an hour each way. Over the summer I've done a few trips up to upstate NY, about 4 hours each way, and I'm not worried about it crapping out. It now has 176k miles on it and seems to be doing well. I want to replace an engine mount and rear brakes and rebuild a few calipers, but I can't afford to do anything and it still gets me where I need to go, and looks pretty darn good doing it too. Recent stuff I've had to replace were the timing belt and tensioners (it's the V6), serp belt, transmission mount, turbo (big $$), and CPS. A high-mileage Saab isn't a bad deal. Just do as much research as possible so you know what to look out for and try to know the history of the car. I bought mine from a friend of the family who gave me ALL the maintenance records starting when the warranty expired. Good luck!
