Becuase if you have, you would have noticed these advantages over the Saab 9-5
-much better interior build quality; the Saab should have a "made by Fisher Price" sticker on the dash.
-much less road noise
-less wind noise
-more legible instruments
-much smoother engine
-more solid feeling body structure
-smoother over bumps yet handles better
-steering feel. The 5 series has the best steering feel of any car that I have ever driven. My 1999 9-5 felt like a Gran Am.
The BMW with snows is fine in the snow. You cannot accelerate as fast as a 9-5 with snows, but once going I prefer the 5 series. My 9-5 did not have traction control or stabilty control, and there is nothing worse than understeering on snowy roads at moderate speeds.
I went from a 9-5 2.3lpt to a 530i. The BMW costs about $3000 more sticker price if you buy but does cost a lot more to lease then the 9-5. The 9-5 is nice, and I would consider it again if the price was a little lower. I think the 9-5 is more comparable to a Passat, but is light years behind the 530. I also think that the A6 is a nicer car for the money than a 9-5. The 9-5 is bettter than a Volvo S-60 in my opinion, but the S-80 is a better value if you want a larger luxury car.
And, yes I drove the newer Aeros before I bought my 530. The Aero is fast, that is for sure. But otherwise it is still a 9-5 and it is not worth $43,000!
