A few are missing my point. This valve should never fail and it does because GM has cheapened this fine auto to the point that the original people who designed and built the car should be crying an tearing their hair out. After the first of many failures this valve should have been scrapped and redesigned. I have owned many examples of this car. The originals, Before GM, were designed and engineered so that, if a failure occured it was after 120,000 miles and the replacement part lasted a like length of time.
I have spoken with a number of Saab parts people and they tell me that they have had innumerable failures of this part and many were on cars with very low milage and after short durations of time. It would seem that a car with a $35,000+ price tag should be more relaible than that.
I regret that I have almost concluded these cars are not worth the time and money they require. They are still fun to drive but so is my '56 Austin Healey and it requires a lot less maintenance. A BMW or MB, with all of their problems, is probably a better value.
I presently own 6 Saabs. Three are older and very reliable. Three are after GM screwed them up and they are probably the last examples I will have.
The only possible outcome of the present trend is that GM will kill what was a fine car.
