It turns out the rep, she normally handles Caddys, called the DIC the wrong thing. It also turns out that wasn't the issue. I was told that the SAAB technical person, the dealer's goto support, had suggested "de-carbing" the engine. Decarbing as in squirt crap in the intake and hope to remove carbon from the tops of the pistons. Let's just say I lost it and that is not going to happen.
After being able to speak with the two techs who have worked on it recently, I did find out that the system is retarding the timing 8-10 degrees when this happens. So the DIC is good, the MAF was changed a couple of visits ago, the cooling fans are working properly, and I use good gas. Here's my theory of the moment. The system retards spark when it encounters detonation. I have felt the slightest of misfires when this problem happens. I have looked at the plugs and they look fine, clean, gapped, etc. As the Trionic uses the plug to detect detonation, is it possible I have a plug that gets flaky when hot?
