In the 4 Cyl - it is a good idea to replace the plastic pulley directly above the tensioner - they are the hardest wearing - also the center pulley ( the one about 6 inches down if It is a long best setup ( you can chose but Saab recently reversed themselves & started recommending the long belt ( Mechanics hate it - really tough clearance on the center pulley). The advantage with this is slightly smoother idling & when using the powersteering in parking lots etc.
On the V6 engine - this is critcal or you can blow up your engine.
The timming belt drives the cams - get that wrong & valves will hit the pistons & cause $3,000 damage or more. Saab will replace the belt for free but the belt is not the issue - you need to change the tensioner that drive the belt - your dime but critical as they tend to fail at 70,000 ish miles as plenty of people have discovered.
