Yesterday, I received a recall notification from Saab regarding my 2007
9-5 Aero. It read.....

"WE HAVE LEARNED THAT SOME 2006, 2007 AND 2008 MODEL YEAR SAAB 9-5 VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION WHERE THE POWER STEERING LINE CONTACTS THE RADIATOR. OVER TIME THIS COULD RESULT IN A POWER STEERING LEAK.

.....YOUR SAAB DEALER WILL REPLACE THE POWER STEERING LINE AND INSTALL A PROTECTIVE GUARD."

This recall does apply to my car. Examination is simple; look down the back right (passenger) side of the radiator. On my car the power steering hose was pressed against the radiator and had worn through at least half of the thickness of the wall of the hose. I'll be visiting Perrine Saab tomorrow morning....early.

I performed the same inspection on my wife's car, a 2004 9-5 ARC....about an inch of clearance, and no wear.

My suggestion would be to do this simple inspection and avoid the potential for a power steering hose leak....while you’re on vacation.
