Yeah I think if you want to get in there you're going to have to remove the wood fascia. If you look at the picture below you can see that the fascia has big duct things on it that slide into the duct in the dash. I bet you could just sneak the wire through that seem instead of drilling. You'd still need to take the wood part off though. As far as I know the vent grates do not come off, and if they do they are clipped in from behind, haha. You could try taking the SID, radio, radio cage, and ACC out and drilling into the duct from below.
