Did you change the timing belt and tensioners at 60k miles? I guess it doesn't matter now anyway.
If I were in your shoes and were financially stable here's what I would do. First let me give you some background info on what my car (2001 V6) has cost since 80k (I'm at 178k now). Try upwards of $8,000. The previous owner put about $5300 into it and I've put around $3k. Granted, some of this stuff is wear and tear, but the bulk of it is not. Now, don't get me wrong, I very much love my 9-5 and can't wait to get another. You might know your 9-5 and think it's pretty reliable, but stuff just pops up totally unexpectedly after 100k miles. This is on a 2001 too, which is much improved in many ways over the 1999 (first model year in the US). So, if I were you I'd go out and find a 2004 or 2005 9-5 Aero with 40-50k miles on it. Those things are bulletproof, and I think they are the best looking cars on the road. Ideally if you have a barn or big garage I would get a newer 9-5 and part out your old one by yourself. You can really make some good cash if you look at what kinds of things are selling on ebay (seats, airbags, interior bits, wheels, radiator, the list goes on...). It's totally up to you financially, if you've got the money available and if you even want to spend it like that. I think that's just what I would do. Then again my car and I haven't been having the best of relationships lately. I love it but it hasn't been returning the favor. It's been giving me the "I'm tired" treatment for the last few months. I love the way it drives (when it behaves) and looks but I'm getting tired of putting +/- $1k into it every 3 months. And I'm not dissing the brand at all, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS. It's perfectly acceptable for any car to be tired after 180k miles. Good luck!
