Search under my ID and you will find a series of posts from roughly the last 12 months of my battles with an '06 9-5 that acted like you were starting in 3rd gear when the ambient temps got above 90 in city traffic. Additionally it generally ran smoothly but without any real pep at other times when hot. Lots of things were replaced and with each item there was some short term improvement, but as the weather got hotter, the issue persisted.
This past week, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced and thus far the problem is corrected. I guess the net of it was low fuel pressure was leading to lean misfires and the controls were compensating to prevent engine damage.
To those of you lamenting over hot weather acceleration, you might consider replacing the FPR. It worked for me.
