Thoughts on 04 Arc vs. 01 LPT (long)

For those who buy used like I do... I just added a 2004 Arc Auto with only 40K to keep my 2001 LPT (5-spd w/ 115K) company. It cost me about $12K.
The newer 2004 is not quite as luxurious/comfortable as the older 2001. Some of the leather is no longer leather, the suspension is a bit stiffer/harsher, and the seats do not seem quite as comfortable as the 01.
The 2004 handles better, at some sacrifice in ride quality. It has quicker turn-in and leans less due to the stiffer suspension. Part of that is the tires - my 2001 has Michelin MXV4 Primacy's (softer) and the 2004 has Pirelli P6's (firmer).
The 2004 has an auto and it is SO MUCH easier in traffic. It holds top gear on the highway without downshifting too soon (just like a 5-spd), is quick to respond, and the manual (Sentronic) control is there when you want it.
The 2004 has 220hp and is WAY quicker off the line and at lower speeds. And it GETS THE SAME MILEAGE! I got 31mpg (hand calc'd) on a loop down to the SF Bay Area this weekend at 70mph - exactly what I can expect on the LPT 5 spd. And the SID is dead on, much to my suprise.
Overall I am very pleased with the 2004 and it will be my daily driver, but I am keeping the 2001 for long road trips because it still runs so well and is so darn comfortable... I just love these cars.
