We are now on our third 9-5 wagon, and 36 years total with SAABs. I've always done my own oil changes, with NO oil-related problems- or oil consumption, for that matter. Used nothing but Pennzoil dino until the 9-5s, since I've used nothing but M1. The first (a 2001) started out with 0W-30 (per manual) and 5K changes. Based on readings on this forum (and dealer advice) Switched to 0W-40 for the first '04 and the '04 we're driving now. Still change every 5K, use the NAPA Gold (Wix) filter. Even using the M2 and a premium filter, I can still do my own changes under $30. And, unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary that the 2.3 engine in the 9-5 turns into a "sludge monster" if the wrong oil and / or interval are used, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. The new M1 0W-30 Advanced Mileage oil is attractive price-wise, but with only an A1/B1 rating, nothing doing. I'm sticking with the A3, B3/B4 M1 0W-40.
