Pretty sure you can't retrofit... Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Mon, 8 Dec 2008 09:30:48 In Reply to: Re: Factory roof rails retrofit?, George K, Sun, 7 Dec 2008 19:37:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Like George, I tried really hard to get the roof rails on the MY05 SW, but it couldn't be done, according to the dealers. Of course, I didn't think of trying at the local body shop... When you look at the three-point loading on the roof rails, as opposed to the two-points per side on the bolt-ons, you see that there would need to be some serious rearrangement on the top...
I prefer the roof rails - you can adjust the mounting position of the cross bars, to take into account the length of the roof box, or other load. Now, with two wagons and two-different Thule boxes (fat, and long), you have to think about the positions, in order to access the tailgate.
See my photos here on the members section of the site, to see how the two set ups look.
Cheers,
