If you've got 4 wires going to the glass itself, then you've got the auto-dimming mirrors. And I think they go hand-in-hand with the folding mirrors, too.
The black & brown are for the heater, and the others for the dimming function. The center mirror is the "master" and simply sends a dimming voltage (max of 5 volts) out to the mirrors.
Interestingly, the 2002 & earlier cars have the output from the autodimming center mirror, but not the mirror glass in the sides. Though I am told that the 2003 & up mirrors will bolt right up on a 2002 and earlier.
