My wife and I both have 9-5's, a 2004 ARC and a 2007 Aero. I've been following the various posts and opinions on the question you've posed. In fact, just this morning I read an article by Chuck Andrews (Nines, #296 Nov/Dec 2008).
Chuck came down on the side of Akebono pads and Brembo rotors. This combination doesn't make dust and lasts a long time.....and they do a fine job stopping the car too.
My 2007 9-5 came with ceramic pads; at 23.5K miles I can't see any wear whereas normally I'd be planning to do pads and rotors at 30K-35K miles. I'v been told that they're Akebono's. Notably, no dust...nada; the insides of the rims still look new and shiny.
Price-wise the OEM pads and rotors are more expensive than Brembo and Akebono.
