Had this problem on our '04 9-5 Aero Wagon... Posted by TonyJ [Email] (#407) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TonyJ) on Sun, 4 Jan 2009 07:40:51 In Reply to: 9-5 Fuel Gauge Problem, Mike in CT, Sat, 3 Jan 2009 06:49:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The fuel pump assembly, which does include the sending unit, had been replaced by a Saab dealer in RI, but according to our local MA dealer, hand been done wrong (crooked?) so they replaced it again, still under warranty. They said it was not the baffle problem. Since then, it stuck at ~ half once briefly, but has otherwise been OK (approaching 51K miles on odometer). The sending unit (potentiometer) is connected to a thin metal arm terminated with a plastic float on that swings up/down with fuel level; it extends many inches out from the main body, so is vulnerable to anything in the way.
The DTE function works directly from the same sending unit, so you would expect it to act the same as the fuel gauge.
Search for something like "baffle" and you will find many posts on this BB. Apparently, with the fuel pump out, you can see whether the baffle is loose and it is possible to remove it through the fuel pump hole. I concur with others that Saab won't cover this past the normal warranty, but was there any warranty on the pump replaced 8 months ago?
