The tough guard is their more expensive version of the filter.
The tough guard is only mediocre not awful.
I use a Purolator P20195 ( from a Chrysler PT Cruiser turbo). It has the same mounting surface & threads but more filter surface. Tt is a taller filter so you need to add about 200cc more oil per change. The only ting good about the Fram is it is easy to find & had gripper area on the top of the filter. Fram advertizes a lot to keep up sales but take cost out of the filter. If you want to go stock size - use a Mobil 1 filter, they are very good.
