The trick is to put something as wide and flat against the sheet metal as possible so as not to poke a hole in something. and not next to a bolt that holds the metal to anything so as not to pull it loose. But maybe someone else would weigh in. the shops do this job all the time. Seems to me that if cutting a $5 torx wrench short would help, do it. And if you end up needing to jam the bit between the body and the socket, that will keep it from dancing out as you go to turn it.
