First, what happens when you use the fob in the vicinity of the car? Do you get any response from the car?

If not, and you installed a fresh battery it could be:

a) as the other poster said, you need to press "unlock" 4 times in a row (sounds like the ruby slippers...) for the car and the fob to "sync up".

b) if the PO "lost" this fob, and got a new fob or all-in-one key to replace it, the car does not know about the "old" fob any longer. In order to perform key/fob/remote programming, ALL keys/fobs/remotes must be programmed at the same time. You cannot "add" one on. It's all or nothing.

Get in the car, turn it on, then with the key in the ignition, press and hold the trunk button on the key/fob/remote that's in the ignition. The SID will then tell you how many transponders (keys without the remote, and keys with the remote) and remotes (fobs, and keys with remote).

If it comes up, say, two and two, and you have two integrated remote keys, or two transponder (small) key and fob combos, or combination, then the car doesn't know about the "old" remote any more.

You can have a different number of transponders and remotes. But, if you can account for all of the transponders and remotes that SID tells you about, then you need to bring all of them to a shop that has a Tech 2, and have them "married" to the car.

In the photo on the link, are the two keys I got with my 9-5. One remote key (on the left), and one transponder key. Both have the transponder that the car senses, but only the one has the remote function. I did not get a fob remote with the car. The SID inset shows the reply from SID when I pressed and held the trunk button on the key with the car on

Since then, I bought two other remote keys (key blank from dealer, cut to my VIN, plus remote modules from keys off eBay - still spent over $120 the pair), and my mechanic came up with a fob. So now I have three remote keys, one fob and one transponder key all married to the car. And SID tells me 4 and 4...
