Phil, Inspired by your write-up I tried installing the same oil gauge you used as you outlined. But discovered one big improvement on feeding the sender wire into the cabin from the engine compartment : I used solid copper core high gauge wire rubbed with paraffin (wax) as a lead wire and feed it into the inner part of the cable release grommet, i.e. right next to the cable wire sheath. I soldered a green braided wire onto the end of this feed wire and slowly pushed the feed wire through the grommet. The feed wire easily slips through the grommet and there are no worries about wire to metal abrasion to deal with. The green wire followed through the grommet like a slithery snake-no hang ups. After passing sender wire into cabin (which comes out right near the cabin fuse box, I simply snipped off the feed wire, stripped the green sender wire back and used an electrical twist connector to connect the green wire from the oil pressure gauge to the sender wire-no hassle at all. Suggest this to any gauge installer for easy way to feed wire or wires into cabin.
