I may not be of much help other thn I know it's possible! I have not done this myself but my neighbor just did his over the winter on his 99 9-5. He pulled the pan and ended up finding sludge and ended up pulling the front cover and also replaced the chain, gears and tensioners. he had the car up on jack stands and lowered the subframe, I don't rememeber if he blocked up the tranny or if he supported the engine from above. I know he had to raise or moved the engine to get enough room to pull the front cover and I believe he did this from above by using a engine support/lift which sits on the inner fenders on something like 10 inch tall legs. you could make one with a 2x4 and blocks, or possibly by supporting the tranny underneath
