Real Saab parts? Even at the dealer? Not sure :( Posted by Gren1saab [Email] (#874) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gren1saab) on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 18:56:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am a huge Saab nut, as many here... And have recently been seeing some very unfortunate things happening at my local dealer. I am very troubled by this and was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same. And wondering what the future might hold for us true diehard Saab guys. I have the pleasure of keeping alive 6 9-5's in my family. And work on several others from time to time. I have replaced my share of water pumps on these cars and it really isn't a big deal. Tend to last about 120k. I work at a new car dealer not (Saab) as a technician and try to always use OEM parts no matter what I am working on. Just seem to be better quality etc.. Well picked up a water pump from the dealer the other day, and it was in a GM box but I am telling you it was a aftermarket part! It is no longer available from the dealer as a whole unit, and is just half the pump just as aftermarket. And the price went up! The pump itself has no stamping on it that says GM or Saab (like the pumps I have purchased just a few months ago) just some aftermarket company stamp. What is up with this? I was very taken back by this, what is this going to mean on other parts down the line. Are OEM parts no longer going to be available? I would be pissed If I owned a new one, and my pump failed or some other part for that matter. And it was replaced with an aftermarket one under warranty!! This just isn't right. Then on top of that this hurts the dealer. I am one to go there and buy parts because I believe they are better and pay more for them. But why should I go to the dealer and pay more to get the same thing say NAPA sells for less and is the same part!!! This is very bad business, I am assume this is coming from GM (and I could be wrong) but this in turn is going to hurt the dealer network in the long run. I was also told by the parts guy after my rant.. That the GT 17 turbo is now being sold over the counter and as warranty as an aftermarket unit. At a cheaper price in this case though... But still not right. What is going on here? Has anyone else noticed this? Are there other parts being sold like this. I am really bummed and worried even more about the future of Saab. I can't even imagine this happening so soon. The cars are still in production aren't they!!!
