Just got in from installing the Aero inlet tube on my 2002 Arc (V-6) Sedan. Pretty simple as jobs go, but did come up against a couple snags.

First, the hose clamp that holds the tube onto the air filter box was frozen. It was in a bad spot, also, as lying on the ground, I could not get a good angle on it. THat's a nasty place for a mild steel hose clamp anyway...

First question was how to get it off. That was solved by my cordless Dremel knock-off from Craftsman. 15 seconds on "10", and the clamp went "ping" and popped off.

But what to replace it with? After using Saab hose clamps for 26 years, I can't just go to a local auto parts for a hose destroying clamp...

Not to worry, off I went to my local West Marine dealer. West Marine sells hose clamps from the same company that makes the Saab clamps. They use the same style head, the same style of "threads", but there is one difference. The ones at West Marine are made from 316 Stainless Steel... Sure, $6.50 is a bunch for a 2-3" hose clamp, but I'll never need to replace it...

Second snag was getting the new one in... I got the old one out by removing the nuts holding the horn brackets to the bumper & letting the horns dangle. The old tube pulled out the bottom pretty easily. But getting the new, larger tube in proved a challenge. Ultimately, I pulled the belly pan between the spoiler and the subframe, and the tube went right in with just a tiny bit of coaxing.

Can't wait to try it out!

Parts:
Aero Air Inlet: Saab p/n 53-27-424 (Standard Saab part)
West Marine Hose Clamp: 2" - 3" (51-76mm)1/2" (12mm) wide part # 9347683
