I got sick of cringing every time I opened and closed my trunk thinking about the wires bending so I finally did something about it tonight. I took the trunk lid lining off and unplugged the driver side light housing which gave me enough slack to pull the harness out a bit so I could splice in new wire. I spliced about a 3" piece into each wire, just twisting them together and using generous electrical tape around them. I didn't feel like getting the soldering iron out. So far so good, we'll see how long this lasts...
