Yikes..!! Just a few more days before my VA registration is due for renewal, but the emissions inspection is a pre-requisite. I have an Actron OBD II reader that has been reading (and I have been clearing...) the "Small Evaporative Leak" DIC, still meaning to fix the cracked fuel tank leak detector pedestal and now running out of time... (How freakin' ironic that the mounting pedestal for the leak detection is the source of the leak!!!!)
Anyway, I've read the Saabnet contributor's DIY instructions for loosening the fuel tank straps and getting greater working room through the under backseat access hatch to apply tank sealer to the cracked tank pedestal. My personal favorite sealer I intend to try is "Goop". "Shoe Goop", "Plumber's Goop", "Automotive Goop", etc. I believe it is all the same product which has served well in other fixes throughout the car.
Last question.... My wife did all ready try to get the emissions inspection done, but the inspector told her to come back after 50 miles of driving as the testing couild not fully communicate with the car's OBD system.. I believe this is a result of my recently clearing the Evaporative Leak DIC and the car needs a minimum of so many miles to accumulate a complete system reading?
So, best bet is to try and fix the leak before I retest.. Any comments on the minimum miles required to test would be appreciated.
Thanx,
Kirk D.
