So I bought this beautiful 9-5 aero 5spd with 90k on the odo. Trans was kindof grabby but I didn't think anything of it. Then one day in traffic when I would downshift into 2nd it woudl start popping out of gear. So I knew something was up. So I stopped downshifting it into second without matching the revs. I took it to my local mechanic who is a shmuck but gives me really cheap labor rates. He said everything was fine (although I doubt he even checked the fluid level). So I just changed the fluid myself the other day which was quite a task. I don't recommend this job to DIY's because of the location of the drain/check plugs. It was a pretty nasty job. Anyway I drained the fluid. It looked like a kaleidescope of colors with all of the metal shavings and the magnet on the tip of the drain plug was full of junk---not good. I changed the fluid and took a trip to DC traveling at fairly high speeds. When I finally get into The District I try to downshift to 2nd and it bangs in. Accelerating from a stop from 1st to 2nd it grinds in to 2nd. Snychros completely gone!!!! So now i'm left going from 1st to 3rd. New trans or rebuild? Sooooo pissed. Any suggestions?
