Actually the Acura, with the 3.2 V6, wins the efficiency contest. I kept the February 2004 issue of Consumer Reports which tested the 9-5, because I am a weirdo like that. The 9-5 went up against the Acura TL (which had just been redone), Lexus ES330, and Volvo S60. The Saab actually had the LOWEST overall MPG at 21. Acura was 23, Lexus and Volvo both 22. On the highway the Acura got 35 and the Saab did 33. So much for turbocharging and efficiency I guess...

That said, I still would not buy a TL, especially the new one. Have you seen the beak on those things?! The older style TL's are nice looking cars, but the style ('04-08) has bored me. They are too "plain-Jane" in the words of my father; glorified Accord. I hear the hi-def digital audio package is to die for though.

I'm with ChrisC too on the 9-5 unfortunately. Don't take it personally people who own them, but the '06+ 9-5 makes my back hairs crawl. It's so ugly, and the inside has way too many hard plastic pieces where mold seems are visible and weird surface textures and colors.

I just got a 9-5 that will keep me happy for 4-5 years so hopefully I won't be put in this situation, but if I had to buy a car right now newer than a 2006 it wouldn't be a TL, or a 9-5. I would have to think hard about downsizing to a 9-3 Aero (probably would) or get an A4. I'm confident Saab will save their image with the NG9-5, 9-4x, and whatever is beyond those.

Have you thought about just finding a newer ('04-05) 9-5 with lower miles (not that 65k is a lot)? These can be found very cheap, they escaped being hit with the GM-ugly-stick, and most agree that they are much more reliable than the earlier models. I upgraded to an '04 Aero from an '01 V6 and honestly could not be more happy with my choice. Okay, maybe if it were a manual 5-spd...
