This actually pops up on this board pretty often. It is normal, and there is nothing to worry about. As B Lin mentioned it's the lockout solenoid so you can't move the shifter out of park without your foot on the brake. It doesn't exist on the 5-spd manual. I have had two 9-5's and both have made the sound. I have actually sat there a few times pushing the brake pedal on and off just enough to trigger the solenoid. CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK. It is loud, and maybe Saab could have paid a little more attention to it, but whatever. I can deal with it. Enjoy the car.
