Everything you've said points to a possibility. It could be that the pressure in the fuel system is bleeding down over a long period of time. The fuel pump should have a valve that prevents this....but they do weaken over time.
Try this; it will help you confirm the condition that is causing your symptom...although not necessarily the exact cause.
1. Start the car after it has sat for 10-12 hours when you see this symptom.
2. After it has run for only a minute, shut it off for 1 hour.
3. Restart; if the symptom does not repeat, low fuel system pressure is likely the culprit.
Use of a fuel pressure gauge, readily available from AutoZone (CP7818...buy or borrow for a few days) will allow you to diagnose more definitively.
Saab's specs are 43 psi when running, and 33 psi after sitting for 20-30 minutes. You can easily check this at fuel rail fitting with the gauge.
If you find that pressure bleeding off over 10-12 hours is the cause of your problem, replacement of the check valve is an inexpensive option (eEuroparts p/n 4161766 at $11.70).
Good luck, Sue
