U-Haul has no issue putting a trailer on a 9-5 or any other car. They go by the hitch rating primarily. Only Ford Explorers are banned. U-Hauls system will allow the 6x12 on a 9-5.
These are enclosed box trailers. There is quite a bit of drag (maybe less on the wagon than sedan). I've had no issues with a fully loaded 5x8 using a class I hitch on another car. U-Haul stupidly made the 5x10 about 8-10" shorter than the 5x8 and 6x12 which makes loading very annoying. I think one would be better off with a partially full 6x12 than a full 5x8 because the dual axle and trailer brakes put less wear on the car.
