The maintenance schedule says change it out at 60K. We have an '04 9-5 Arc Sportwagon, and when it turned 60K in April, I had the belt changed at our dealer.
That being said, in my opinion the reason for failure in this area (historically notorious with this engine) has less to do with the belt than with some type of failure elsewhere in the belt path: idler, idler mount, some other pulley / sheave. We are on our sixth car with this belt design: 3 9000s and 3 9-5s. All three of our 9000s (two non-turbo) failed in one way or another, none directly attributable to the belt. There was always some other element in the path that had failed. On one car, a 9000T with over 140K, we changed out the belt and less than 5K later the idler mount bracket failed, destroying the new belt. Our first 9-5, an '01 Linear wagon (leased) failed at 37K. Service said belt had failed, hence a wear item, but -curiously- replaced the idler pulley and didn't charge us anything despite the "wear" nature of the failure. Our second 9-5, an '04 Arc sportwagon (lease) was turned in at 55K with no failure. Our current car is at 68K, belt changed per above at 60K, and....so far, so good.
