9-5 drives ahead in "N" position...????

Family member has a 2002 9-5 Aero automatic. When the car starts up you can feel that the transmission is slightly engaging and the front end of the car lifts up (very similar to shifting from "N" to "D"). When I put the gear selector in "R" with the car's engine running, nothing happens. When I put the gear selector in "N" the car begins to drive ahead. I've already adjusted the length of the gear selector cable properly as well as adjusted the position of the "neutral safety switch (NSS)" 3 or 4x. Based on this. one would think the NSS is toast. However, with the engine off, but the key is in the position so that the test lights come on in the MIU, shifting from "P" to "R" to "N" to "D" gives correct results. That is to say, when I have the car's engine off, and the gear selector in "N", the little orange light beside the "N" in the MIU will light up. However, with the car's engine running the "N" position will move the car ahead !!??
I still think the NSS is toast. But, maybe I am missing something...any thoughts on this one would be greatly appreciated. As always... TIA
Cheers
