9-5 automatic transmission question

On Saturday, we sold our 2005 9-5 Aero (to another SaabNet member), and it was pretty sad to see it go. We may replace it with a new 2009, but my wife and I prefer a manual transmission (both of our 9-5's were sticks, as are our other vehicles), and manual 9-5's are rare. We have test driven several 9-5's with automatics, and they're ok (though we still prefer the manual). I have a question for those who have done more than a brief test drive.
On our manual 9-5's, we could use the cruise control on the highway at any speed up to about 80, and the car easily handled all the hills we encountered in fifth gear; the engine did not lug, and we did not have to turn off the cruise and/or downshift. In the automatic vehicles I have driven over the years, the transmission usually downshifts on hills, often annoyingly so. My question is, does an automatic 9-5 downshift on moderate hills when using cruise control, and, if so, do you find it annoying?
Thanks.
