Things went together as they should after cams were in, cam timing seemed too easy to be right, but it appears it is.. crank timing marks lined up and with #1 cyl at TDC and both cams ended up slightly to intake side of timing marks on cam caps, 15 pins in between cam sprocket timing marks and cam lobes on #4 cylinder on intake and exh cams were both at exact same angle opposite one another. at first looked too much to the right of marks, but one tooth over placed them way toward exhaust side so guess the cam marks are just off from factory by perhaps 1/16-1/8" max?
Checked timing chain tensioner after turning motor over several times and chain was taught, motor turned smoothly but heard strange slight clicks during turning, but clicks were not felt as turning crank like an obstruction of any kind.. after new timing chain and sprockets the tensionser extended to 10mm when I checked before torquing tight, not terrific, but also not bad I thought considering I didn't do new guides and that the tensioner was fully extended and chain sloppy when I started this deal??
Anyway, the slight clicks I hear come at the same exact revolutions of the cams each time as I turn the motor over a complete cam revolutiosn even turning ever so slowly.. if I recall I think I hear it 3-4 times during a complete revolution of the cams and each time there are 2 slight click click sounds that hapen one right afdter the other, sounds like springs clicking?? I can't quite get my head up to the cyl head while turning the crank myself to hear better, but click click sound appears to be coming from valve train area? I messed with the timing chain and moved the links back and forth as they were taught on the sprockets and the links seems to make a similar click noise when moved left and right for the play between links.. tried to time click noises with cam tappets lifting or depressing but couldn't really tell there.. so not sure if it may be the squisy tappets that may have lost their prime clicking when depressed or released or what else it could be? I yanked the balance chain so that is not in picture anymore... no binding in motor when turning at all? I wish I could post a video/audio of it..
Should I be worried or just run it??
Oh yea, as an FYI.. the cam cover vent tubes for the PVC system breathing were completely, totally and very compactly clogged with crud.. could not blow air through at all... the one over chain opening side was not bad, but clogged, the one over cams side totally solidly plugged.. worked at them for over an hour with numerous pieces of wire and finally got a stiff brass brazing rod and managed to poke through and pull largest chunks out.. next comes brake/parts cleaner, pipe cleaner wire, and air..
If I recall I saw a service bulletin for clogged tubes being a cause for oil leaks (or cosumption??), this part of my PVC system was definitely not working properly..
