What has happened to my tires Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Sun, 5 Jul 2009 19:18:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This weekend I noticed a lot of steering wheel vibration at certain speeds (around 25 mph to 35 and again at 60 to 65). My wife, who has been driving the car much more than me, mentioned she's noticed it too although not to the degree we were seeing this weekend.
The car is a 9-5 Aero Wagon. The tires have about 35-40K on them. Need to check my records to be sure. While 2 tires look more worn than the other 2, tread seems OK to good. Car was aligned 3K ago at Saab dealership and just passed MA inspection 2 weeks ago. No mention of tires during either event.
When rotating tires tonight to see if bent wheel was the problem (I've already had 2 of the 17's I'm running right now straightened) I noticed uneven wear on the inside of all of the tires. The tires that came from the back were particularly bad. These tires were so worn that I will need to replace them. One of the tires from the front has damage that looks like a cut, so that will need to be replaced as well.
I created a shutterfly gallery. I've never tried linking to an image, hopefully this works OK.
Any ideas on what may have happened? I verified tire pressure at 34 psi, which is where I run the 17's. The tires are Kumho Ecstas, have been OK prior to this.
Thanks in advance!
Ian
