That really rots.. makes me wonder on the reliability of my used 2004 TD04 with supposidly 56k miles on it.. but I'll try and not think about that for now.. are you certain the oil burning is from the turbo? seeing the blue smoke or just oil consumption? If I remember correctly from one of your posts, you didn't change the valve seals?? perhaps this is your oil burning? unless it came on fast and suddenly?? the rubbers on mine were rock hard when I removed them and for the $2 ish per seal I opted to change them and afer I removed the old hard ones was glad I did, also allowed me to lap back in the valves with valve grinding compound which really cleaned up the seats and valves.. really was not that tough to pull em out with the proper valve seal pliers contrary to what someone else posted that they were a PITA to change.. valve keepers were tricky to reinstall, but manageable..
Did the impeller feel loose on the new unit when you installed it? I never dug into a turbo so no clue on what seals or bearings go bad to cause oil burning, but my Garret turbo impeller was so loose it was not funny..
There is definitely a significant difference in those 2 units.. exhaust hole size, intake side looks different, as does the hard line oil connection port.. but you said you got the intake pipe amd lines to match..
The wastegate vacuum thing looks rusted up much more than your old unit so maybe those 45k miles were rough ones or maybe sat in the salvage yard exposed to weather for a bit? Since you will now be matching the exhaust mani to da turbo hole, I assume you will need the larger turbo gasket anyway to accommodate this unless that is what you got for your rebuild..
Sucks to have to do a redo after all your hard work, but best of luck with it to get it back up to snuff and on the road agin!! you can doooo it!!
