Trunk/Boot lid harness fixed - the RIGHT way. Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sat, 15 Aug 2009 18:55:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I caught some grief from people on forums because of my somewhat "ghetto" wire harness fix. I just cut and spliced in speaker wire wrapping it all in electrical tape... Well it finally gave up last night when the lock actuator stopped responding to the key fob or door button. Crawling into the trunk through the back seat to pull the emergency chord wasn't doing it for me so I got some supplies and ripped into it this afternoon.
I completely removed the whole harness because it's a huge PITA to work on with it in the car. It was much easier than I thought it would be actually; I just made sure I labeled where all the plugs went in the lid. I got some 18gauge automotive wire and spliced in a good 12", soldering and shrink-tubing it all. It came out looking muuuch better than before. Hopefully it will last.
