BAD LUCK - Today while approaching a left turn lane on a major road, I saw a cloud of white eminate behind my car followed by the same from under the hood while waiting to turn left. Managed to get into the parking lot and shut it down.
Thought I might be able to limp home by adding water periodically to the reservoir but anything I poured in there immediately drained onto the ground near the front passenger side. So I got'er towed home. I suspected a rad hose but after some disassembly, I can see that water pours out of the passenger side plastic shell of the radiator itself.
GOOD LUCK - It was just me and the Mrs. on some errands w/o our handicapped son in the car. AND it was within city limits, not out on the highway loaded to the max with stuff going to the cottage a few weeks ago. AND it isn't January and -35C! AND we have a second vehicle so I can take some time to repair it myself.
I see the best deal on a new radiator appears to be the "Nissans" brand at eEuroparts for $299. I need a new cabin fan too and a few other items that will near $1000 in parts but it cost far less than dealer here in Canada and UPS standard shipping is reasonable.
I'll do the main rad hoses too, and I know my thermostat is flaky. I might even pre-emptively replace the coolant bypass valve which is original in my 10 year old 9-5 SE.
I did the water pump last year. Any other cooling system hoses or other items that are known typical failure points?
Thanks, Reg
